Working Dog School Dec 2019
Join Catherine and Fred Rains for a fun weekend of learning and training working dogs. Over the two days we will cover the process that we follow when training Lokabe dogs from puppy through to fully-going stock dog, as well as some very important training fundamentals that ensure you start your dog off right and give them the greatest chance of becoming a valued member of your team.
WORKING PLACE – $400 (10 available)
Learn the theory and then put it into practice by booking one of our working spots. Bring one dog or multiple dogs at various ages and stages of training. Please be aware that due to time constraints, each working handler may initially only run one dog per exercise (different dogs for different exercises is fine). Once the main training steps are covered however there will be time to revisit and practice each exercise. All dogs must have a current C3 vaccination and be in good health to participate.
AUDITOR (SPECTATOR) $150 Saturday/Sunday, $100 Saturday only
Unable or not keen to work a dog at the school? Learn the theory, participate in discussions and ask questions during all theory and practical components of the workshop as a spectator. Unlike working places that are only available for the full weekend, spectators are welcome to attend for one day (Saturday) or both days. (Spectators are unable to attend just for the Sunday, as they will have missed important information given on the Saturday).
Participants are asked to please arrive at 8.30am on the Saturday for a 9am start.
Can I attend on the Sunday only?
No, for both Working and Auditor Spots, you may only attend on the Sunday if you attend on Saturday, as a lot of fundamental information required for both days is covered. Please note that Working Spots can only be booked for the full weekend.
Other than the two days jam-packed with information on how to get the most out of your working dog, you will also receive an information booklet, sample of Antinol (a joint supplement that has done amazing things for the Lokabe crew), morning and afternoon tea both days (including tea/coffee facilities) and a whole lot of fun!
What do I need to bring?
- Sunscreen/insect repellant
- Lunch (tea/coffee and morning/afternoon tea will be provided)
- Closed-toe shoes
For your dog/s (working spots):
- Vaccination certificate (a copy or photo can be emailed prior to email@example.com, or presented prior to the workshop commencing)
- Water bowl
- Tie-out chain/crate/dog box
- Collar and lead
Can I bring my dog if I'm Auditing?
No. If you have booked an Auditor's ticket, please leave your dog/s at home.
How do I get there?
Full directions with a map will be sent prior to the commencement of the workshop.
What breeds of dog are welcome?
Typically, these workshops cater to Working Kelpies, Border Collies and Koolies, as they all have a similar work style. If you have a dog of a different breed, please contact the organiser prior to booking your ticket, as it is important to us that we are able to cater to the needs of all of our canine participants.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
Email - firstname.lastname@example.org (preferred)
Private message through our Lokabe Working Dogs facebook page
Call Catherine on 0419 230 881 (please leave a message with your name and number if unanswered and she will call you back when she gets a moment of relief from her two toddlers!)
What's the refund policy?
Sorry, but there are no refunds for tickets purchased for this event.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, we will have a list of attendees at registration, but it doesn't hurt to have it onhand on your phone in case of any technical issues.
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yes, if for some reason you can't make it and find someone to replace you, that is fine. However, we would appreciate you letting us know via email of the change.
